Why did you create "Chicas del Norte"?
Where did the idea come from?
We created “Chicas del Norte” based on our friendship and the desire to share this passion for the skateboarding with more women. The idea came from María José Rojas and Silvia Urra from “Chicas del Sur SB”, who invited us to make our own group of women but from the north area of Chile as they did with the south.

How many girls are part of the group today?
How has it been growing?
The group includes all girls who are skaters and also those who want to learn, so we do not have a specific number of members since everyone who wants to be part is included. In the last national championship in “Bahía Inglesa”, a total of 20 skater girls attended. Every day the group becomes more known and more women who want to learn how to skate speak to us. We help them to achieve their goals and do not stay with the desire to experience a skateboarding lifestyle.
Do you count with any type of support?
Everything we have done so far has been self-managed. Still, for every event, we have the support from regional brands. We would love to have bigger support to be able to develop our activities properly and keep helping outstanding girls in the north of Chile. With better support they could travel, to compete and to meet other girls. We also are thinking about building a skate school with teachers and start offering the right equipment for practice.

How do you see the scene of the female skateboarding in Chile and in the world?
The female skate scene has grown a lot in recent times. Every day more groups are made with the aim of uniting, for example "Juntas Mejor SB" is a new group that includes all areas in Chile. It has become an impressive platform of communication and promotion of skateboarding, as well as promoting equality inside the sport. We also see that the women's skate scene has generated important agents of change for equality inside the country.
Biggest benefits...
The most beautiful benefit of this group is the friendship that is granted since so far it is the only thing we have to offer, our time, dedication and passion in sharing skate.

Any message?
The skate is beautiful and without rules. You don't need to have the best tricks to be a skateboarder, as long as you enjoy the moment and have a good time on the board, that is the only and really important thing.
